Imogen Heap

While I'm here I might as well talk about going to see Imogen. It is a Blog after all, a nice way of posting some art and keeping everyone updated on what's going on. I went with my friend Jil and caught Imogen over at the Cannery on Saturday night. I really enjoyed the show but was starting to feel sick on the way over(which turned into a miserable Sunday and early Monday). Anyhow if you haven't heard her stuff before go check her out. Some of you might have heard her at the end of Garden State. She puts on a good show by just mixing her voice on the fly and playing her keyboard. She's real quirky, a lot of fun, and man can she belt it. However I've seen her once, I dunno if I'm dying to see her again. I also liked one of her opening acts, Josh Doyle(don't get me started on the other one). I even got the guys ep. He's local so hopefully I can catch him again. Unfortunately the venue wasn't the best for this kind of show. It was a cool set up but having a bar there just got a lot of people really rowdy and it got hard to hear(granted I was taking in my fair share of alcohol as well...not the best thing to fight a burgeoning illness). I'd love to go there again, just for a different type of show.

Run Sam Run!!!!

This is a pin up image of a book that my friend Greg Thompson(of Hero Camp fame) and I have been talking about doing for awhile. Unfortunately I've been so busy it has really taken a back seat over the past few months, but I'm in the process of really lighting a fire under my ass and getting this thing moving. It's called Lonesome Town. That was a tentative title awhile back so I'm not sure if that's really what Greg has settled on, but for now that's it. I drew this a few months ago(sorry no recent art update!) and liked it so much I thought I'd post it here. Look for more LT sketches and maybe some pages in the future. Greg and I really want to see this in print. In the meantime I'm just sick at home and off to do thumbnails for this and another project I need to get started on.

Where have you been?!

For those of you who have been wondering where the heck I ended up after college, the answer is right above. After my brief stint in Brooklyn and longer than brief stay at home with the folks I ended up moving down to Tennessee. I had been searching for awhile at that point for a place to get my feet wet in the art field and to finally head out on my own. After a few failed attempts to move to back to Colorado and even possibly California(!), I had the opportunity pop up to come and intern at Funnypages Productions here in Franklin, TN. The owners of said art studio are Tom Bancroft and Rob Corley. These guys are former feature Disney animators who moved up here when Disney closed down their 2-D animation shop a few years back. They've worked on pretty much everything since Rescuers Down Under up till Brother Bear. We're pretty involved with children's illustration, character design, and a few other big projects I'm not supposed to talk about. So for the past year I've been doing grunt work like scanning, and supply runs as well as inking an entire children's Bible and helping on a few other projects. I've done a little freelance with them here and there and am trying to absorb what I can and become a better artist. It's not always easy. I've also been working at Borders Books to make an extra buck during the week. it's been an interesting year for sure, and it's nice to know that I'll be sticking around here for awhile longer. I'm in no mood to pack up and ship out to someplace new anytime soon.

Childhood Nightmare!!!

When I was about four I had the most frightening dream involving Sweetums the Muppet, my cousin Debbie, and a giant boiling cauldron. Maybe I had just watched the Black Caulron. Or possibly The Muppets take Manhatten. Whatever it was I had this dream where my cousin and I were being chased by Muppet like monsters through a forest of giant letters and numbers(apparently sesame street had an impact here as well). We were caught and I escaped...Debbie didn't fare so well. Sorry Deb. Anyhow I did this for my friend Greg's website where he gives us a topic and we have two weeks to have an image ready. I've only done a Godzilla before this one. I have an Aquaman in the works for this week...I just need to find the time to color it.

Holy Smokes! Chad has a Blog!!!

That's right. It's true. I'm finally joining the web community and coming out from hiding. I figured it was as good a time as any to actually begin putting some drawerings up on the ol' internet. This way I have someplace to display some of the sketches and things I've been working on and also update. That's going to be the tricky part. But I guess if I've got this neat little space the least i can do is keep it updated. Maybe it'll get me to draw and sketch more. Maybe even finish a drawing sometime (seeing as how I usually throw out half the stuff I'm working on before I give it a chance). Anyhow, more to come. For sure. I promise.
